Overview of Trainasheddog.com

When logged into the program, the sequential training videos are located under "Products" and divided into two categories:

Shed Dog Training Guide and Drills

This section is comprised of 31 lessons ranging from basic foundational shed dog training to intermediate/advanced drills. This section is designed to build confidence using a gradual approach and methodical methods of teaching. The purpose of the drills and videos are to instill and maintain confidence in your dog as it relates to hunting for, finding, and retrieving antlers. The comprehensive drills will help you achieve reliability in a variety of domains such as basic hunt command, visual recognition, scent recognition, hunting away from the handler, ranging, hunting in cover, quartering, finding and retrieving antlers in various conditions and distances. Our comprehensive training videos will help you work on specific skillsets, and address common issues/frequently asked questions.

The lessons contain a short written overview of the objective, as well as what is required to complete the exercise. In the video lessons, you will find a more detailed explanation of the purpose and expectation of the exercise, an explanation of how to implement the lesson demonstrated with visual aids, and a demonstration with a dog(s).

Competitive Shed Dog Training Drills and Resources

This section will prepare you and your dog for shed trials. We recommend that your dog performs the previous lessons reliably before beginning this section. A common mistake is beginning tests/trials before the dog is ready, which can result in a loss of confidence, bad habits, and subpar results.

We like to take our time and use our systematic teaching approach prior to engaging in trials to ensure that the dog is confident, and understands what is required of them. In this section you will find lessons to assist you in the following:

  • Overview of a shed trial/test (Working and Champion)

  • Prepare your dog for shed trials using a gradual approach of teaching with comprehensive and confidence building drills

  • Implement training drills to maintain skills and increase performance in trials

  • Prevent common handler mistakes in tests/trials
